Former WA treasurer joins Woodside

Australian largest LNG firm Woodside said its board has appointed Western Australia’s former treasurer Ben Wyatt as a non-executive director.

Wyatt will join Woodside as an independent director. He will be a member of the Human Resources & Compensation Committee, Sustainability Committee and Nominations & Governance Committee, Woodside said in a statement.

Wyatt retired from the Western Australian Parliament in March this year. He was the first Indigenous treasurer of any Australian parliament, but he also has held various shadow cabinet portfolios including responsibility for Native Title and the Pilbara, according to Woodside.

Prior to entering Parliament, Wyatt practised as a lawyer in both private practice and with the Western Australian Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“Wyatt’s extensive parliamentary and professional experience provides him with a detailed understanding of the broad range of stakeholder issues relevant to Woodside’s activities,” Woodside said.

Furthermore, Woodside chairman Richard Goyder said that Wyatt’s background in treasury, finance and Indigenous affairs “brings a unique dynamic” to the board.

“Wyatt’s proven strategic leadership, demonstrated across his diverse ministerial portfolio, will be an important contributor to the Woodside board as we execute our growth priorities and pursue the energy transition,” Goyder said.

Wyatt will be considered for election as a non-executive director at Woodside’s annual general meeting in 2022.
