Iveco to provide LNG-powered truck for European truck racing events

Italy-based truck manufacturer Iveco, a unit of CNH Industrial, will provide one bio-LNG truck to the European Truck Racing Association.

ETRA said in a statement the deal is a part of a three-year extension of its long-standing partnership with Iveco.

The association would use the Iveco S-WAY NP as the pace truck for all events.

“With the introduction of HVO biofuel to the FIA ETRC from the 2021 season, the bio-LNG-powered pace truck will be the second technology on the truck racing grid, as a further step of the championship to accommodate technical developments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on track,” ETRA said.

Like all of Iveco’s natural power gas vehicles, the new pace truck is bio-LNG ready. By using bio-LNG, it does not only reduce nitrogen dioxide and soot emissions, it also reduces the carbon dioxide emissions by up to 95%, ETRA said.

Last season, the Iveco S-WAY NP already made an appearance at the race weekends and it would now become the “first environmentally friendly pace truck powered by gas at the truck racing events,” it said.
