Samsung Heavy awards LNG tank gig to GTT

French engineer GTT has won a contract from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy to design tanks for two new LNG carriers.

Under the new order, GTT will design the tanks for two 174,000-cbm LNG tankers.

In addition, the newbuilds would feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system, according to the French firm.

GTT said the delivery of the vessels would take place between the second and third quarter of 2024. The firm did not reveal any additional information.

The LNG carriers in question are probably related to the recent order Samsung Heavy disclosed in a stock exchange announcement.

The shipbuilder said it would build two LNG carriers for an Oceania-based owner for about $375 million.

Samsung Heavy also did not reveal any additional information but several brokers reported after the announcement that Maria Angelicoussis-led Maran Gas had exercised options for two LNG carriers.
