India’s Petronet, KSRTC testing LNG-powered buses

India’s largest LNG importer Petronet has joined forces with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to test LNG-powered buses.

KSRTC will on Monday start using two LNG-powered buses, provided by Petronet, as it looks to replace diesel in order to slash emissions and costs.

The trials would run for three months, according to KSRTC.

The transport firm aims to convert 400 diesel-powered buses to LNG.

On the other side, Petronet is working on a network of LNG filling stations across India as the country looks to switch from diesel to cleaner fuels for road transport.

India has plans to build a nationwide network of about 1,000 LNG filling stations for trucks.

Petronet is also a part of the project and the company is looking to develop its LNG distribution business for the road transport sector.

The LNG importer previously said it was working on up to ten LNG filling stations with partners. Plans also include supplying LNG to the mining sector.
