Jiangnan delivers first VLGC to Exmar

Belgian shipowner Exmar has taken delivery of the first out of two dual-fueled very large gas carriers in China.

China’s Jiangnan Shipyard delivered the 88,000-cbm Flanders Innovation on Wednesday, according to a statement by Exmar.

Exmar claims the vessel is the largest dual-fuel LPG carrier in the world.

To remind, the Chinese yard launched this LPG vessel last year and its sister ship Flanders Pioneer in April this year.

Exmar said it has financed the new vessel through a sale-leaseback scheme with the Japanese shipping group Doun Kisen. This will be the case with the second vessel as well.

Both of the carriers will sail on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The shipping firm will also take delivery of the second VLGC later this summer. They will both work for Norwegian energy giant Equinor under 5-year charters.

Exmar operates a large fleet of vessels including LPG and LNG tankers, two FSRUs but also Tango FLNG.
