Eastern Pacific Shipping orders four LNG-powered PCTCs in China

Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping has ordered four LNG-powered pure truck and car carriers from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard.

The duo signed the construction deal via a video call on Thursday, according to a statement by Jinling.

Moreover, the contract also includes options for two more LNG-powered PCTCs.

The 200 meters long vessels will have a total car capacity of 7,000 units, the statement said.

The yard said this marks the first cooperation between the duo but it did not reveal the price tag of the vessels or the delivery date.

Idan Ofer’s EPS has this year signed several contracts for LNG-powered vessels. This includes a deal to charter eleven LNG-powered containerships to Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Co.

In addition, the firm has also signed a deal to charter up to six LNG-powered dry bulk carriers to mining giant Rio Tinto.

On the other side, China Merchants Jinling Shipyard has earlier this year won an order to build four similar LNG-powered PCTCs for Japan’s shipping giant NYK.
