Gazprom starts work on Russian small-scale LNG plant

Russian gas giant Gazprom has started building a small-scale liquefaction plant in southwestern Siberia.

The firm is building the facility in the Prokopyevsk district in the Kemerovo region, also known as Kuzbass.

Located at the Naryksko-Ostashkinskoye CBM field, the first phase of the small-scale LNG would go online in 2023, accroding to a statement by the Kuzbass government released on June 24.

To remind, Gazprom announced this development earlier this month.

The Russian firm said the plant’s output would help convert mining equipment to LNG and to replace coal fuel in the region, particularly in the Sheregesh ski resort.

Moreover, the small-scale plant would get methane from the coal formations of the Southern Kuzbass group’s coal fields, Gazprom said. Gazprom Dobycha Kuznetsk holds the the subsurface use license.

The produced CBM will go to the small-scale LNG plant located near the production site at Naryksko-Ostashkinskoye.

The facility would have an initial capacity of 26,000 tons per year but with room for further expansion, Gazprom previously said.
