Denmark’s Svanehoj to provide pumps for LNG-powered containerships

Denmark’s Svanehoj said it has won an order to supply fuel pumps for 22 LNG-powered containerships under construction in South Korea.

Shipbuilders Samsung Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering awarded the contracts to the pump manufacturer, according to a statement on Monday.

Under the deal, the Danish firm said it would deliver 44 deepwell fuel pumps to the two shipyards before the end of 2023.

DSME has recently secured six additional 23,500 TEU LNG-powered containerships from Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd. In total, the yard would build 12 LNG-powered vessels for the German liner.

On the other side, Samsung Heavy will build ten 15,000 TEU LNG-fueled containerships for Seaspan but these vessels would go on charter to Israel’s ZIM.
