Gate takes FID to boost regas capacity

Dutch Gate terminal, a joint venture of Vopak and Gasunie, has taken a final investment decision to increase regasification capacity.

Launched in September 2011, Gate has an annual throughput capacity of 12 billion cbm of gas per year.

However, over the last couple of years, the terminal in the port of Rotterdam “has seen periods of very high utilisation as illustrated by a record regasification of around 1.1 Bcm during the last month of May,” it said in a statement.

“Gate terminal has now received enough firm market interest to decide to invest in a capacity increase of 0.5 Bcm per annum to a total of 12.5 Bcm per annum,” the terminal operator said.

The additional send-out capacity would become available as of October 1, 2024.

Gate did not disclose the financial aspects of the investment.

Gate’s commercial manager Stefaan Adriaens told LNG Prime that the terminal operator has still to award the contract for the additional equipment.

Worth mentioning here, Gate revealed on Wednesday it had received its first carbon-neutral LNG cargo.

Moreover, France’s TotalEnergies and Austria’s OMV delivered the LNG shipment from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass terminal on May 5.
