Bechtel gets contract for Delta’s LNG-to-power project in Vietnam

Bechtel has secured a front-end engineering design contract from Delta Offshore for the latter’s planned project in Bac Lieu, Vietnam, which will include an LNG terminal and a 3.2-GW power plant.

Under the deal, the US engineering giant will provide services for the combined cycle gas turbine power plant in the Bac Lieu province, about 175 miles (250 kilometers) south of Ho Chi Minh City in Southern Vietnam, according to a joint statement.

The plant consists of four single shaft units of H class gas turbine technology and will form the energy backbone of the Mekong Delta region, earmarked as a focus area for major economic development, the statement said.

Delta previously said that Bechtel had completed the pre-FEED study necessary to establish the engineering basis of the plant.

The developer has also earlier this year secured land approval for the LNG-to-power project and awarded a contract to a unit of Sweden’s Stena for the jetty-less floating terminal.

In addition, Delta is negotiating the terms of the power purchase agreement with Vietnam Electricity Authority and implementing site reparation works.

Upon successful conclusion of the FEED, Bechtel and DOE “look forward to a smooth transition into the EPC execution of the project,” the statement said.
