Qatar Petroleum signs 15-year LNG supply deal with Taiwan’s CPC

Qatar Petroleum said it has entered into a 15-year deal to supply LNG to Taiwan’s CPC.

Under the sales and purchase agreement, QP will deliver 1.25 million tons per year of LNG to CPC’s receiving LNG terminals.

QP said in a statement on Wednesday it would start supplying LNG to Taiwan in 2022.

This marks the fifth deal QP has announced since February this year following the Vitol deal for Bangladesh, the Pakistan agreement, the Sinopec deal, and the most recent agreement with Shell for China.

According to QP, since the first LNG delivery in March 2006 to date, CPC has received more than 63 million tons of LNG from Qatar.

“We are pleased to enter into this long-term LNG SPA, which is another milestone in our relationship with CPC, which dates back to almost three decades,” Qatar’s energy minister and chief executive of QP, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, said.

The new LNG supply contract comes months after QP announced a final investment decision on its $28.75 billion North Field East project.

Under the project, QP will build four mega trains with a capacity of 8 million tonnes per year in the Ras Laffan complex.

This first phase of the expansion project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 110 mtpa.

QP also plans a second phase to further boost capacity to total 126 mtpa by 2027 as well as additional expansions.

The company’s unit Qatargas already operates in total fourteen LNG trains at Ras Laffan.
