Santos awards Bayu-Undan contract to McDermott

Australian LNG firm Santos has awarded a subsea contract to US engineer McDermott for the Bayu-Undan project in the Timor Sea.

Under the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract, McDermott will work on the Bayu-Undan infill well Phase 3C project located 200 kilometers off the southeast coast of Timor-Leste. The Bayu-Undan field is one of Timor-Leste’s largest gas fields.

To remind, Santos and partners have started a $235 million infill drilling campaign at the Bayu-Undan field in May in order to extend the life of the field and to boost natural gas supplies for the Darwin LNG export plant.

Moreover, the start of the Phase 3C drilling program followed a final investment decision in January this year.

The McDermott scope involves a tieback of a single in-field well to existing facilities re-using existing flexible flowline with a new umbilical and certain infrastructure, the firm said in a statement.

In addition, McDermott’s office in Perth will manage the scope of the contract.

The Houston-based firm did not disclose any financial details of the contract.
