Gladstone LNG exports hit record high

LNG exports from the Gladstone port in Australia’s Queensland have reached record numbers despite the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Gladstone Ports Corporation.

In the 2020/21 financial year, more than 23 million tonnes of LNG has left the three Gladstone LNG terminals on Curtis Island.

This marks a year-on-year rise of 3.72 percent, GPC said in a statement.

Most of these exports or 15.8 million tonnes landed in China, followed by South Korea with 3.25 million tonnes, and Malaysia with 1.74 million tonnes, GPC said.

Curtis Island is home to the Santos-operated GLNG plant, the ConocoPhillips-led APLNG terminal, and Shell’s QCLNG facility. These are the only LNG export facilities on Australia’s east coast.

GPC said it has facilitated 350 LNG vessel movements, ported 1909 ships but also exported and imported 123 Mt through its three ports in Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Bundaberg in the year ending June 2021.
