Polish quarterly LNG imports rise

Poland is continuing to increase imports of LNG via its only import facility in Swinoujscie as it is looking to reduce reliance on pipeline gas from Russia.

Poland’s dominant gas firm PGNiG said in a preliminary operating report on Tuesday that it imported 0.98 billion cubic meters of LNG into Poland in the first quarter of this year.

This represents a 34.2 percent increase year-on-year when compared to the January-March period in 2019.

Total natural gas imports, including pipeline gas from Russia, declined 5.7 percent to 3.67 billion cubic meters, PGNiG said.

Poland imports LNG from US, Qatar and Norway.

In 2019, PGNiG imported 3.43 billion cubic meters of LNG into Poland, a rise of more than 25 percent year-on-year.

The company previously said Poland would stop importing Russian pipeline gas in 2022 when the country’s contract with Gazprom exipres.
