Nigeria LNG names new CEO

Nigeria LNG, the operator of the 22 mtpa Bonny Island plant, said it has appointed Philip Mshelbila as its new chief executive officer.

Mshelbila will replace Tony Attah following the expiration of his five-year tenure as the CEO of the LNG producer, Nigeria LNG said in a statement. The appointment is effective August 31.

Attah will return to his parent company and Nigeria LNG’s shareholder, Shell, the statement said.

On the other side, Mshelbila is finalizing his tenure as chief executive officer of Trinidad and Tobago’s Atlantic LNG, the operator of the Point Fortin export terminal.

Prior to joining Atlantic LNG in 2018, Mshelbila has worked as the general manager, gas for Shell Nigeria, and as a director of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), according to Atlantic LNG’s website.

Before that, he held the positions of regional communications manager for Shell in West Africa and general manager for sustainable development and community relations for Shell Nigeria.

Nigeria LNG is a venture compromising of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (49%), Shell (25.6%), Total (15%) and Eni (10.4%).

The firm has recently started building the seventh production unit which would boost the Bonny plant’s capacity to a total of 30 mtpa of LNG.
