Qatargas says delivers first LNG cargo to Kuwait’s Al-Zour terminal

LNG producer Qatargas said it has delivered the first-ever cargo of LNG to help commission the new Al-Zour receiving terminal in Kuwait.

The Qatargas-chartered 217,000-cbm Q-Flex LNG carrier Al Kharsaah delivered the cargo from the giant Ras Laffan complex to Kuwait on July 12, the LNG producer said on Thursday.

To remind, LNG Prime reported on this development on Monday following an announcement by the LNG terminal operator KIPIC, a unit of Kuwait Petroleum.

Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatargas CEO, welcomed the commissioning cargo to “this landmark facility in cooperation with our strategic business partners at KPC.”

“The successful commissioning of this LNG receiving terminal will contribute towards strengthening our business relations with KPC,” he said.

Al-Zour LNG terminal is one of the largest in the world with an import capacity of 22 million tonnes per annum.

Currently, it is the world’s largest capacity LNG storage and regasification green field project, according to Qatargas.

The terminal consists of two jetty heads, capable of simultaneous discharging, but it also has eight storage tanks.

Moreover, each tank has a net volume capacity of 225,000 cubic metres.
