GTT bags new LNG tank orders from Korean yards

French LNG tank specialist GTT has won new orders from two South Korean shipyards following a recent contract for four carriers.

Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho awarded the orders to GTT, the Paris-based firm said in a statement on Monday.

Under this order, the French firm will design the tanks for six 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.

All of the newbuilds will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane technology.

In addition, Hyundai Heavy will build two of these vessels on behalf of an Asian shipowner and two for a European owner, according to GTT.

GTT said Hyundai Samho would build two LNG carriers for a European owner as well.

The Korean yards would deliver the ships between the last quarter of 2023 and the third quarter of 2025, GTT said without revealing any additional information.

HHI and Hyundai Samho have lately secured orders for several LNG carriers including the six 174,000-cbm vessels which will go on charter to Shell.

Shel said earlier this month it had agreed long-term charter contracts for the carriers with Knutsen, Pan Ocean, and investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

The Hague-based LNG giant said Hyundai Heavy and Hyundai Samho would build these vessels and start delivering them from 2023.
