Nigerian cement firm Lafarge Africa, a unit of LafargeHolcim, said it has launched 52 LNG-powered trucks as it looks to slash emissions and costs.
The implementation of LNG-powered trucks in partnership with Ecologique would “improve environmental performance as LNG generates 30% less carbon dioxide than fuel oil and 45% less than coal,” the firm said in a statement.
Lafarge Africa held a ceremony this week to launch the trucks at its Ewekoro plant.
In addition, Lafarge Africa is planning to add more LNG-powered trucks in the coming months while exploring other “sustainable transportation initiatives.”
The firm did not reveal any additional details on the trucks or where it would fuel the new vehicles.
