Novatek launches new LNG filling stations in Germany and Poland

Russia’s Novatek has opened new LNG filling stations for trucks in Germany and Poland as it continues to build a network of such facilities to meet growing demand in the road transport sector.

The independent LNG exporter launched two new facilities in the second quarter and now operates ten LNG filling stations in Germany and four in Poland via its unit Novatek Green Energy.

“We plan to construct and open another 28 LNG retail stations,” Novatek’s CFO Mark Gyetvay said on Thursday during a conference call discussing the company’s quarterly results.

“We marketed approximately 13 thousand tons of LNG through our European retail stations
during the first half of 2021, and sold 7.5 thousand tons in the current period, which represented a 34% increase quarter on quarter,” he said.

Gyetvay revealed earlier this year Novatek’s plans to build 30 LNG filling stations in Europe as an increasing number of firms opt for the fuel to reduce costs and emissions.

In addition, Novatek recently said it would create a unit to focus on developing the small-scale market in Russia.

Novatek – LNG Fuel would construct small-scale plants, facilitate LNG wholesale markets but also develop a retail network for LNG as a fuel for vehicles in Russia, the firm said.
