Hyundai LNG Shipping places another LNG carrier order at DSME

South Korean shipowner Hyundai LNG Shipping has ordered another LNG carrier from compatriot shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The contract for the 174,000-cbm LNG carrier has a price tag of 227.8 billion won ($197.9) million), DSME said in a statement on Monday.

In addition, the Korean shipbuilder will deliver the vessel by the end of May 2024.

This order follows a similar contract the duo revealed in May this year for one LNG carrier that will go on charter to Spain’s Repsol.

According to DSME, this vessel will also serve Repsol under a long-term charter deal.

The vessel will feature MAN ME-GI propulsion and a reliquefaction system.

DSME has this year won about $6.33 billion in orders for 41 ships. These include very large crude carriers, LPG carriers, containerships, two LNG carriers, and one wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV).
