GLS adds 120 LNG-powered trucks to its fleet

Logistics firm GLS has updated its fleet with 120 Iveco S-Way LNG-powered trucks as it looks to slash emissions.

GLS, one of the main express couriers in Italy, will replace its diesel-powered trucks, according to a statement by Iveco.

With the LNG and bio-LNG powered fleet, GLS would reduce CO2 emissions by up to 7300 tons. This would be equivalent to planting 146,000 trees covering an area comparable to 487 football fields, Iveco claims.

Moreover, with bio-LNG this value increases exponentially, achieving a CO2 reduction of 78,000 tons, the truck manufacturer said.

“This ambitious new project with Iveco is part of our broader strategy to ensure at least 20-25% of our fleet is equipped with low environmental impact traction by 2022 and 45-50% by 2025,” Klaus Schaedle, group area managing director at GLS, said.

Furthermore, he said GLS believes that bio-LNG technology can have, “a profound impact in our industry by helping to reduce emissions by up to 95%.”

“And for this reason, we are moving quickly and with determination in this direction with Iveco’s support,” Schaedle said.
