China’s Tangshan LNG import terminal gets new tanks

China’s state-owned energy giant CNPC said its unit PetroChina has launched four new storage tanks at its Tangshan LNG import terminal in the port of Caofeidian in Hebei province.

The four new 160,000-cbm LNG storage tanks are part of a new expansion phase and add to the four existing tanks at the import facility.

According to CNPC, the Tangshan LNG terminal now has a total storage capacity of 1.28 million cubic meters, making it the largest in China. Its send-out could reach 41.2 million cubic meters per day during peak periods in the winter, the energy giant said.

CNPC’s unit PetroChina Jingtang LNG operates the facility with a 51 percent stake while Beijing Gas has 29 percent and Hebei Natural Gas owns the rest.

The terminal received its first LNG cargo from Qatar back in 2013 while CNPC expanded the facility in 2015 from 3.5 mtpa to 6.5 mtpa.

Moreover, the facility delivers regasified LNG via a large pipeline to Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. It also supplies LNG via trucks.
