Delta Offshore Energy has secured environmental approval for its planned project in Bac Lieu, Vietnam which will include an LNG terminal and a 3.2-GW power plant.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment approved the project’s environmental impact assessment on Thursday, according to local media reports.
Delta has in July awarded a front-end engineering design contract to US engineering giant Becthel to provide services for the combined cycle gas turbine power plant in the Bac Lieu province.
The plant consists of four single shaft units of H class gas turbine technology and would form the energy backbone of the Mekong Delta region, earmarked as a focus area for major economic development, the duo said.
Delta previously said that Bechtel had completed the pre-FEED study necessary to establish the engineering basis of the plant.
The developer has also earlier this year secured land approval for the LNG-to-power project and awarded a contract to a unit of Sweden’s Stena for the jetty-less floating terminal.
