Wartsila scores contract for Italian LNG bunkering vessel

Finland’s Wartsila said it has won a contract to supply a complete cargo handling system for a new LNG bunkering vessel ordered by Italian shipping group Fratelli Cosulich.

China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering is building the vessel for about $45 million.

The 5,300 dwt dual-fueled vessel will have the capacity to transport over 8,000 cbm of LNG and 500 cbm of MGO for bunkering.

The Wartsila system selected for this bunkering vessel includes a complete engineering, design and equipment supply package for the cargo handling system, according to Wartsila.

The scope includes a loading and discharge system, a boil-off gas (BOG) management control and integrated fuel supply system, as well as the custody transfer and bunkering transfer systems.

Wartsila said it would start delivering the equipment in 2022 while the ship should start commercial operations in 2023.

It will probably operate around Italy’s coastline in the Mediterranean Sea.
