Hyundai Samho awards LNG tank job to GTT

South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has contracted Paris-based GTT to design tanks for two new LNG carriers.

GTT said in a statement it won the order in July.

Both of the 174,000-cbm LNG tankers will feature the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

According to GTT, Hyundai Samho would deliver the ships to an unnamed European owner in the first quarter of 2024.

The LNG containment specialist did not provide any additional information.

This order is probably related to a stock exchange filing by Hyundai Samho’s parent Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering revealed in July.

KSOE said then Hyundai Samho would build two LNG carriers for a European company for 462.7 billion won ($401 million) and deliver them by the end of March 2024. KSOE also did not disclose the name of the owner.

VesselsValue data shows that Norway’s Knutsen and Russia’s Sovcomflot are the only firms that have 174,000-cbm LNG carriers on order at Hyundai Samho for delivery in 2024.
