Croatian FSRU hits new milestone

Croatia’s first and only floating storage and regasification unit, located at the Krk facility in the northern Adriatic Sea, has reached a new milestone in its first year of operation.

From the start of commercial operation on January 1 to September 8, the 140,000-cbm FSRU has sent more than one billion cubic meters of natural gas to the Croatian transport system, according to the state-owned terminal operator, LNG Croatia.

This equals more than 1.6 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, it said.

“All of the above proves the importance of the terminal for the gas market in the Republic of Croatia and this part of Europe, and the impact on regional gas flows,” LNG Croatia said.

To remind, the FSRU has recently received its 12th LNG cargo onboard the 266,360-cbm Q-Max LNG carrier Al Mafyar.

In total, the unit has received seven shipments from the US and two cargoes from Qatar since January 1. It also received two cargoes from Nigeria and one from Belgium’s Zeebrugge.

The FSRU also supplied a small cargo in May to Avenir LNG’s dual-purpose bunkering and supply vessel Avenir Accolade.

Switzerland-based trading firm MET, Hungary’s MFGK, and Qatar’s PowerGlobe have booked almost all of the volumes at the Krk facility for the next three years.
