Edison says Ravenna small-scale LNG terminal gets commissioning cargo

Italian energy group Edison said that the new small-scale LNG terminal in the port of Ravenna has received its first commissioning cargo.

The 30,000-cbm Ravenna Knutsen, owned by Knusten, delivered the maiden cargo from Spain on Thursday, Edison said. It previously loaded the shipment at the Enagas-operated Barcelona LNG plant.

The ship is on a 12-year charter with Edison and will serve the small-scale facility in Ravenna.

Edison has a 30% stake while Enagas’ unit Scale Gas owns a 19% stake in the joint venture that operates the project, Depositi Italiani GNL. Italy’s PIR Group is the majority owner with a 51% stake.

With the arrival of the first cargo, the facility has started its commissioning activities. These activities should complete by the end of October.

The partners invested around 100 million euros ($118.1 million) in the Ravenna facility.

It has a storage capacity of 20,000 cbm and an annual handling capacity of over 1 million cbm.

This is sufficient to supply about 12,000 trucks and up to 48 ferries per year, according to Edison.
