Yanmar wins order for Japan’s LNG-powered coal carrier

Japan’s Yanmar said it has received an order to supply engines for one large LNG-powered coal carrier to be operated by compatriot shipping giant MOL.

Yanmar revealed in a statement on Thursday its dual-fuel 6EY22ALDF engines would power generators on board the LNG-fueled vessel.

Japanese shipbuilder Namura Shipbuilding is building the vessel.

This marks the first time these engines would power an LNG coal carrier. They feature load fluctuation tracking and high thermal efficiency, according to Yanmar.

In addition, 6EY22ALDF engines “always maintain optimum combustion, enabling them to deliver stable, highly reliable operation,” it said.

Yanmar did not provide any additional information regarding the order.
