Edison says wins arbitration case against Qatargas over LNG price

Italian energy group Edison said it had won an international arbitration case against Qatari LNG producer Qatargas in relation to a price hike of their long-term supply contract.

“The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has notified the parties the decision related to the arbitration proceeding started in 2019 by Qatargas against Edison to obtain an increase in the contract price,” Edison said in a statement on Monday.

“The arbitration board, fully accepting Edison’s defensive arguments, decided to reject
all Qatargas’ requests to obtain a price increase (several hundred million euros in the period),” Edison said.

Through the contract with Qatargas, Edison imports about 6.5 billion cubic meters of LNG
per year to Italy from Qatar through the Rovigo regasification terminal, it said.

Located offshore of Porto Levante, in the northern Adriatic Sea, the offshore gravity-based structure (GBS) has a regasification capacity of 8 bcm of natural gas per year.

ExxonMobil Italiana Gas, a unit of ExxonMobil, controls Terminale GNL Adriatico, or Adriatic LNG, with a 70.7% stake. Qatar Terminal, a unit of Qatargas’ parent Qatar Petroleum, has a 22% stake, while Italy’s Snam holds a 7.3% share.
