Germany’s Hartmann in LNG-powered containership move

German shipping group Hartmann said it would manage a new project which includes the construction of 3,500 TEU LNG-powered container vessels.

The order is based on a new design developed by Hartmann and compatriot HB Hunte Engineering, a Hartmann spokesperson told LNG Prime.

Hansa International Maritime Journal reported on Monday that Hartmann would expand its fleet with six LNG-powered 3,500 TEU container vessels.

However, the spokesperson said Hartman did not place an order for these LNG-powered vessels but it would manage the newbuild project for an undisclosed owner.

The spokesperson did not provide any additional information on the newbuilds or the new design due to non-disclosure agreements.

Leer-based and family-owned Hartmann operates a fleet of more than 150 vessels. These include gas carriers, product tankers, bulk carriers, pneumatic cement carriers, container ships, and multi-purpose vessels, according to its website.
