The Santos-operated GLNG plant on Curtis Island near Gladstone has recently shipped its 500th cargo since it started operations about six years ago.

Australian LNG player Santos said the 149,744-cbm 2008-built Hyundai Ecopia had loaded the milestone cargo on August 9, but it did not reveal any additional information.

The vessel’s AIS data shows it had delivered the LNG cargo to the Kogas-operated Pyeongtaek terminal in South Korea.

With a capacity of about 7.8 million tonnes per year, the GLNG plant consists of two liquefaction trains. The integrated LNG project includes extracting coal seam gas from fields located in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Queensland, eastern Australia.

The plant shipped its first cargo back in October 2015 from the first train. The second liquefaction unit began producing LNG in 2016.

GLNG is a joint venture of Santos, Malaysia’s Petronas, France’s TotalEnergies, and Kogas.

Petronas and Kogas have both long-term contracts for LNG volumes from the facility on Curtis Island.
