Liqvis launches new LNG filling station near Hamburg

Liqvis, a unit of energy firm Uniper, continues to expand its network of LNG filling stations for trucks with the opening of a new facility near the northern German port city of Hamburg.

The new LNG filling station is located in Rosengarten, according to a Liqvis statement on Tuesday.

Liqvis says this filling station complements the firm’s growing LNG network in Germany but also in France.

According to its website, Liqvis now has six operational LNG filling stations in Germany and six under development. It operates two filling stations in France as well.

The market for LNG as a truck fuel is growing rapidly in Germany as owners look to slash emissions but also a road tax exemption for such vehicles until the end of 2023.

Besides developing LNG filling stations, Liqvis has recently teamed up with compatriot rail logistics firm VTG to complete test deliveries of LNG by rail from Brunsbüttel to Ingolstadt.

In addition, the firm plans to start supplying bio-LNG to its filling stations next year as part of a deal with EnviTec Bioenergie Güstrow, a unit of EnviTec Biogas. EnviTec will produce the fuel at its biogas plant in Gustrow.
