Petronas: five injured after fire at Bintulu LNG complex in Malaysia

Energy major Petronas said five contractor personnel were injured after a fire broke out at its giant Bintulu LNG complex in Malaysia.

The incident took place on September 28 at about 4.15 pm. However, operations at the Bintulu LNG complex remained unaffected, according to a Petronas statement.

Petronas said the incident occurred at the sea cooling water outfall channel located outside the terminal’s process area.

“The plant’s emergency response team was immediately mobilised to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire by 4.41 pm,” Petronas said.

“Five contractor personnel sustained injuries in the incident and were immediately sent to the hospital for treatment. They have all been discharged,” it said.

Petronas added it had informed all relevant authorities about the incident. Also, the firm has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Malaysia LNG, a unit of Petronas, operates the giant 30 mtpa LNG complex in Bintulu. The plan mainly supplies China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
