GTT nets another LNG tank contract from Samsung Heavy

French LNG containment giant GTT said it has secured another order from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the new contract, GTT will design tanks of four new 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.

All of the vessels will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

GTT said in a statement Samsung Heavy would deliver the vessels to an unidentified Asian owner by the first quarter of 2024, but it did not provide any additional information.

The Korean yard revealed this order in a stock exchange filing on September 30.

Samsung Heavy said it would build the LNG carriers for 959.3 billion won ($809.2 million).

After that, Russia’s Sovcomflot and Japan’s NYK confirmed that they have ordered the four vessels which would serve Novatek’s Arctic LNG projects.

Besides GTT’s Mark III Flex cargo containment system, the 293 meters long ships will feature WinGD’s dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engines. They will also have a reliquefaction unit.
