Russian gas giant Gazprom is looking into adding a third train at the natural gas and LNG production complex in the Baltic port of Ust-Luga.
Gazprom and partner RusGazDobycha started building the massive complex earlier this year. RusKhimAlyans, a joint venture established on a parity basis by the duo, will operate the complex.
Also, Linde and Renaissance Heavy Industries have won a contract to build the two-train 13 mtpa LNG export plant, which is a part of the complex.
However, seems like the partners are looking to boost the plant’s capacity even more.
Gazprom, RusKhimAlyans, and Linde signed a memorandum of intent on Thursday to “assess the possibility of building an additional – the third one – production train at the LNG production plant,” Gazprom said in a statement.
The firm did not reveal any additional information regarding the third train.
Besides this memorandum, Gazprom said the three firms also signed a license agreement for the LNG project.
It gives rights to RusKhimAlyans to use the natural gas liquefaction technology developed by Gazprom and Linde.
The technology is patented in Russia, with Gazprom and Linde as the patent holders, the state-owned firm said.
Gazprom previously said it had expected the first LNG train of the complex to go into operation in the fourth quarter of 2023 and the second train in the fourth quarter of 2024.
