First LNG-powered ship to join Wallenius SOL’s fleet in mid-December

Sweden’s Wallenius SOL expects to take delivery of the first out of two LNG-powered RoRo vessels currently under construction in China in mid-December.

Chinese yard CIMC Raffles in Yantai launched this LNG-powered vessel named Botnia Enabler in July this year.

Knud E. Hansen, the designer of the vessels, announced the estimated delivery date for the first vessel in a statement on Wednesday. It also said that CIMC Raffles launched the second sister ship last week.

The world’s largest ice-rated dual-fuel RoRo-ships have a length of 242 meters and a deadweight capacity of about 27,000 tons, according to Knud E. Hansen.

Also, they have a capacity of 5,800 lane meters.

Each of the vessels will feature two Type C Man Cryo 685 cbm LNG tanks, as well as two WinGD dual-fuel main engines.

Following delivery, both of the newbuilds will head towards home waters in the Gulf of Bothnia.
