Qatari LNG shipping giant Nakilat has taken delivery of the third out of four newbuilds from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
DSME delivered the 173,400-cbm Global Sea Spirit to Nakilat’s joint venture Global Shipping. Nakilat owns 60% percent share in the venture while Greece’s Maran Ventures, led by Maria Angelicoussis, holds the rest.
Nakilat, which manages the vessel commercially and technically, said the new LNG carrier would go on charter to US LNG exporter Cheniere.
This LNG carrier follows the delivery of Global Energy in May last year and Global Star in January this year.
Both Global Energy and Global Star feature ME-GI engines while Global Sea Spirit and the fourth vessel have X-DF propulsion.
DSME should deliver the fourth LNG carrier early next year.
Following the delivery, Nakilat’s fleet will rise to 74 vessels, which is just under 12% of the current global LNG fleet based on carrying capacity, Nakilat says.
Nakilat Shipping Qatar (NSQL) currently manages and operates 24 LNG carriers, 4 LPG carriers, and one FSRU.
