Scandinavian Biogas said it has extended its agreement with Dutch LNG supplier Rolande for deliveries of waste-based liquefied biogas or bio-LNG.
Rolande supplies LNG and bio-LNG to the company’s clients via a network that consists of 20 owned stations in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. This network will continue to grow in the coming years.
Sweden-based Scandinavian Biogas said the volume of this new agreement replaces a previously signed deal.
Also, deliveries will start in 2022 from Scandinavian Biogas’ facilities in Sweden and Norway for primarily supply to the Dutch and German market.
The supplies are for several years, totaling about 90 GWh of bio-LNG per year.
As a comparison, 90 GWh of bio-LNG corresponds to the annual consumption of more than 200 trucks that drive 100,000 kilometers or 15,000 cars that drive 10,000 kilometers a year, according to the biogas producer.
Scandinavian Biogas has made large investments in liquefied biogas in recent years. A unit of the firm has earlier this year awarded a contract to Wartsila to build what it says is the world’s largest bio-LNG production plant.
“We notice a great interest in liquid biogas among many players in Europe. The European gas organization NGVA has set a goal of 280,000 gas-powered heavy trucks in Europe by 2030,” Matti Vikkula, CEO of Scandinavian Biogas, said.
“I think we will see much more of this in the future, there are already over 400 gas filling stations in Europe for liquefied gas (LNG and bio-LNG) and the network is being expanded at a fast pace”, Vikkula said.
