Norwegian shipping firm Eidesvik Offshore has secured a charter contract from German oil and gas company Wintershall Dea for one of its LNG-powered PSVs.
The dual-fueled 2013-built Viking Princess will start the new contract with Wintershall Dea in January next year, in direct continuation of the current contract.
Eidesvik said in a statement the new contract would last until January 2023.
It did not reveal any additional information regarding the contract.
The LNG-powered vessel was the world’s first offshore vessel with a battery hybrid energy storage solution replacing a traditional generator, Eidesvik claims.
In November 2021, the vessel would also get a shore power system, it said.
Earlier this year, Norwegian downstream player Gasnor, a unit of Molgas, said it had signed a deal to supply LNG fuel to Wintershall Dea.
Under the contract, Gasnor will supply liquefied natural gas to Eidesvik’s Viking Princess serving Wintershall Dea on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
According to Eidesvik’s website, the offshore vessel owner has five LNG-powered PSVs in its fleet.
