HHI, Hyundai Samho score LNG carrier orders

Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering said Friday its two units Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho have secured orders to build LNG carriers.

The deals include four LNG carriers worth in total 891 billion won ($746 million), KSOE said in two regulatory fillings.

Under the first deal, shipbuilding giant Hyundai Heavy has secured a 445.6 billion-won deal to build two LNG carriers.

The yard will build the vessels for an unidentified shipper in Bermuda.

Hyundai Samho will also construct two LNG tankers for 445.6 billion-won but for a European company, KSOE said.

The Korean firm added that it expects to book another two LNG carrier orders this month.

KSOE said that all of the carriers will serve the Hague-based LNG giant Shell.

These deals mark the first LNG vessel orders among Korean shipbuilders this year.
