DESFA says five firms secure Revithoussa LNG slots

Greece’s DESFA said firms booked most of the 2022 unloading slots at its LNG import terminal located on the island of Revithoussa following an auction process.

The auctions started on October 22 and ended on November 2, DESFA said in a statement, adding it has recorded a “significant interest” from gas importers.

DESFA said five companies had participated in the LNG auctions for the year 2022, booking a total of 34 out of 46 LNG unloading slots, which correspond to an unloading quantity of 27 TWh.

“In addition, these companies, in the context of the second phase of the LNG auction and to optimize their portfolio, proceeded to the commitment of continuous LNG gasification capacity, total amount of 72,420.37 MWh/Day,” DESFA said.

The gas grid and Revithoussa terminal operator said the interest of the users forms a “favorable condition” regarding the security of supply of the country, but also of the wider region, given the significant development of the cross-border trade with Bulgaria, which has taken place in the last years.

DESFA added that auctions for the following years, from 2023 to 2026, would start on November 8, with a completion date set for December 29, 2021.

LNG deliveries to Greece dropped in the January-September period due to lower volumes from the US and Qatar.

DESFA recently said that its LNG import terminal received in total 25 vessels in the period. This compares to 40 vessels in the same period last year.

The shipments totaled 18.14 terawatt hours, down about 30 percent when compared to 25.86 TWh in 2020, DESFA said.
