GTT clinches SHI tank contract for LNG carrier quartet

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries has contracted Paris-based GTT to design tanks for four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.

All of the vessels would feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system, GTT said in a statement on Monday.

The LNG containment specialist said it won the contract in October.

Samsung Heavy would deliver the vessels to an unidentified Bermuda-based owner during 2024, GTT said, but it did not provide any additional information.

The Korean yard revealed this order in a stock exchange filing on October 25.

Samsung Heavy said the owner would pay about $206 million per vessel, the highest since 2015.

The yard added it would deliver the ships by the end of 2024, but it also did not reveal any additional information regarding the contract.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that J.P. Morgan could be behind this order for four new carriers.

According to VesselsVallue data, Global Meridian Holdings, part of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, placed the order for these LNG carriers.
