LGM Engineering wins order for two Japanese LNG bulkers

China’s Gloryholder Liquefied Gas Machinery (LGM Engineering) said it has won a contract from shipbuilder Japan Marine United to supply liquefied natural gas fuel systems for two LNG-powered bulk carriers.

JMU is building the 210,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel vessels for Japan’s shipping giants NYK Line and K Line, according to a statement by LGM Engineering.

LGM Engineering said it has secured the contract in September, but it did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

Under the contract, the Chinese firm will supply the complete LNG fuel gas supply system, including single wall PUF insulated LNG fuel tank, gasification module and BOG handling system module.

In addition, LGM Engineering will also supply LNG bunkering stations, water glycol system and ESD systems, as well as installation guidance, commission and crew training.

The deliveries will start at the end of 2022.

Japanese steel manufacturer JFE Steel revealed earlier this year it had signed long-term charter deals for three 210,000-dwt LNG-powered bulk carriers.

JFE Steel will use the Newcastlemax vessels to transport iron ore and coal from overseas locations to its steelworks in Japan.

The steel producer signed the three deals with NYK Line, K Line, and MOL, while JMU and Imabari Shipbuilding will build the LNG-powered vessels and deliver them from the beginning of 2024.
