Australian monthly LNG exports hit new record high

Australian LNG exports hit a new record high in October, boosted by more shipments to China and Taiwan, according to EnergyQuest.

In October, Australian projects shipped in total 7.23 million tonnes or 105 cargoes, slightly higher than the record of 7.2 million tonnes in March, the consultancy said in its monthly report.

Compared to the previous month when Australia shipped 6.96 million tonnes or 101 LNG cargoes, exports rose by 0.26 million tonnes.

Also, EnergyQuest estimates that Australian LNG export revenue increased in October to $5.21 billion, up from $4.90 billion in September and up by 188 percent on October 2020.

When compared to the previous month, Australian projects delivered five fewer cargoes to Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore in October, but six additional cargoes to China and Thailand.

West coast shipments increased to 5.1 million tonnes in October when compared to 4.9 Mt in September, with 73 cargoes in October compared to 70 in September.

As previously reported by LNG Prime, east coast shipments increased to 2.1 million tonnes in October, with 32 cargoes compared to 31 in September.

EnergyQuest also reported three spot cargoes from the east coast in October and five spot cargoes from the west coast, or 8 percent of total shipments.
