Dynagas names second FSRU in China

China’s Hudong-Zhonghua has hosted a naming ceremony for the second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) the yard built for Greek shipping company Dynagas.

The ceremony for the 174,000-cbm Transgas Force took place at Hudong’s yard on Changxing Island, Shanghai on Thursday, according to the shipbuilder.

CSSC’s unit Hudong said last month that the 294 meters long and 47 meters wide FSRU had completed both its sea and gas trials.

Hudong will soon deliver the vessel financed by CSSC Shipping, the financial leasing unit of CSSC, to Dynagas.

One shipbuilding source told LNG Prime that US LNG exporter Cheniere would charter this FSRU for a short period and use it as an LNG carrier.

In July this year, Dynagas took delivery of the 174,000-cbm Transgas Power, the first unit in this batch of two. Brokers previously said this ship serves France’s TotalEnergies.

These vessels are the first Chinese-built FSRUs.

Both of the units feature three Wartsila regasification modules. Each regas unit has a capacity of 250 million standard cubic feet per day.

Also, the FSRUs have MAN dual-fuel diesel-electric propulsion and GTT’s NO96 containment system.
