LNG carrier GasLog Glasgow rescues 17 people off Mexico

Greece-based shipping firm GasLog said the LNG carrier GasLog Glasgow has recently rescued 17 people in the Yucatan Channel between Mexico and Cuba.

GasLog Partners owns the 2016-built, 174,000-cbm LNG carrier while Shell charters the vessel.

“The GasLog Glasgow, while transiting the Yucatan Channel, bound for Sabine Pass, rescued 17 people from a boat in distress (taking in water),” GasLog said on Monday.

“The crew took all necessary safety precautions, including COVID antigen testing, provided them food and water, and a safe room to rest,” it said.

The LNG carrier, following the instructions by MRCC Mexico, sailed to the Isla Mujeres and safely transferred them to a Mexican Navy vessel, GasLog said.

Following this, the vessel proceeded towards its destination to Cheniere’s Sabine Pass terminal.

GasLog did not provide any additional information.

According to its AIS data, the LNG carrier was on Tuesday located in the US Gulf of Mexico, making its way to the liquefaction plant.
