Cheniere says 6th Sabine Pass train produces first LNG

US LNG export firm Cheniere said it has started producing LNG from the sixth production train at its Sabine Pass liquefaction plant in Louisiana.

Cheniere Energy Partners, a unit of Cheniere, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.

The firm said that the commissioning process continues and it expects substantial completion of the 5 mtpa unit in the first quarter of 2022.

Substantial completion of the liquefaction unit is expected one year ahead of the guaranteed completion date.

In September, Cheniere introduced feed gas to the unit after receiving approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Bechtel is building this train, such as the previous five units and the three trains at Cheniere’s Corpus Christi plant.

Upon completion, Bechtel would transfer the completed train to Cheniere Partners, and Sabine Pass’ total production capacity would reach about 30 mtpa of LNG, the firm said.

“This milestone is yet another impressive achievement by the Bechtel and Cheniere teams who continue to safely commission and bring our LNG trains online ahead of schedule and within project budgets,” Cheniere’s chief executive Jack Fusco, said.

“With global economic activity increasing and the winter season approaching in key LNG markets around the world, providing additional supplies of reliable LNG can help companies, countries and communities around the world during this high-demand period,” he said.
