GTT clinches tank job for LNG carrier trio

French LNG containment giant GTT has won an order from South Korean yards to design tanks for three new 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.

GTT said in a statement that Hyundai Heavy Industries would build two of these vessels while Hyundai Samho would construct one ship.

The tanks will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment technology.

HHI and HSHI should deliver the vessels in the third quarter of 2024 to a European owner, GTT said, without revealing any further information.

This order could be related to Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering’s announcements earlier this month.

KSOE said in two separate filings to the stock exchange that its unit HHI would build two carriers for about $421 million while HSHI would construct one LNG carrier for $211 million.

It also did not reveal the name of the owner behind the orders.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that Evangelos Marinakis-led Capital Gas has ordered these three new LNG carriers.

Earlier this year, Capital Gas ordered two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at HHI as well.

With this new order, the Greek company’s fleet would rise to 12 vessels.

In addition, Capital Product Partners has this year purchased three of these LNG carriers and has recently exercised an option to buy three more vessels in this fleet.
