BW orders LNG carrier duo at DSME

BW LNG, a unit of Singapore-based gas giant BW, has placed an order for two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, according to brokers.

Clarksons Platou said the order also includes an option for two additional LNG carriers.

DSME should deliver the vessels to BW LNG in 2025, Clarksons said, but it did not provide any additional information.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that BW LNG would pay about $207 million for each LNG carrier. DSME has also recently won an order from Maran Gas to build two LNG carriers for about $206 million per vessel.

BW LNG has earlier this year taken delivery of two new ME-GI vessels from DSME.

These include the 174,000-cbm BW Lesmes, chartered by BP, and the 174,000-cbm BW Helios which also serves BP.

BW said then the LNG carrier BW Helios was the seventh newbuilding featuring MAN ME-GI propulsion in a series of nine ships ordered at the Korean yard.

Both of the 294.4 meters long vessels feature a reliquefaction system and GTT’s NO96 containment technology.

The shipping firm plans to take delivery of the last two vessels in this batch in 2022, according to its website.
