GasLog orders LNG carrier quartet at DSME

Peter Livanos-led GasLog said it has ordered four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

All of the LNG carriers would feature ME-GI propulsion, GasLog said in a statement. ME-GI is short for M-type, electronically controlled, gas-injection propulsion.

GasLog added it would take delivery of the LNG vessels in 2024 and 2025, but it did not reveal any additional information.

DSME announced on Wednesday it had secured orders for six 174,000-cbm LNG carriers worth about 1.49 trillion won ($1.26 billion).

The yard said that two unidentified owners in North America placed the orders.

It would build four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers for one owner and two for the other firm, the shipbuilder said.

GasLog’s consolidated fleet consists of 39 LNG carriers out of which four are under construction.

Of these vessels, GasLog owns 21 LNG carriers while three have been sold and leased back by GasLog under long-term bareboat charters. The company’s subsidiary GasLog Partners owns the remaining 15 LNG vessels.
